Welcome to Silverbacks Lacrosse!

The Silverbacks Lacrosse Association (formerly the Newark Youth Lacrosse Club ) got its start in 1989 by Bob Shillinglaw, current Head Coach of the Men's Lacrosse program at the University of Delaware. Coach Shillinglaw's love for Lacrosse established clinics and games for young athletes from the Greater Newark area to participate in. Today, because of Coach Shillinglaw, SBLA has grown to well over 300 boys and girls in its programs and continues to grow each year. SBLA is a member of the Delaware Youth Lacrosse Association who organizes league games, tournaments and oversees the development of youth lacrosse in the "First State."

In early 2010, our club merged with the Silverbacks Lacrosse a premiere high school boys tournament program that competes in select summer and fall tournaments in and around the Mid-Atlantic states.  The tournament programs are under the directorship of Christian Zwickert, a native Delawarean and well known lacrosse athlete and former NCAA lacrosse coach who turned around several college lacrosse programs that consistently had winning seasons during his tenure, Christian will be working closely with our coaching staff as Director of Coaching Development to impart his wealth of lacrosse knowledge and aid in developing sound practice plans, coaching strategies, manage our summer tournament program and other administrative duties associated with running the club.

Our Goals and Philosophy at SBLA is to provide a safe, fun and positive environment that fosters good sportsmanship and citizenship while learning the skills necessary to play the great game of lacrosse.

Come join Silverbacks Lacrosse and play the "fastest game played on two feet."
